The Best Jobs Usually Do Not Go to the Best Qualified Candidate! Here’s Why …

Here is a quote by Richard Bolles, the author of What Color is your Parachute?:

“The one who gets the job is not the best qualified, but the one who knows the most about getting a job”

I cannot stress enough how important that statement is. When it’s you who is looking for a job, it’s critical that you know exactly what to do and not flounder around, wondering what works and what doesn’t. Those of you who are currently in a job search, and those of you who could be in one within the next several months, now is the time to learn all you can about how to conduct a successful job search, so that your career gets back on track, and you are back to earning the salary you deserve.

We are in the middle of summer and many people think this is a good time to back off of their job search and take a break. Well, I have news for you. This is not the time to slack off – employers are in the mist of looking for great candidates and are making a concerted effort to line up job candidates NOW. Many corporate budgets are opening up at this time and management is looking to added members to their staff.

Do you know what it takes to conduct an effective job search? Are you sending out your resume to companies on job boards and not getting results? Are you sitting by the phone and wondering why it is not ringing with interview offers? Are you sending out 20 – 100 resumes per week and are still not getting any response from employers?

There are three basic areas that must be covered and mastered to dramatically improve your chances of getting called for interviews, thus shortening your job search. They are:

  1. A dynamite resume that shows your value – employers won’t contact you unless they know the value you can offer them
  2. A LinkedIn Summary that highlights the skill set and the value you have to offer – 98% of employers check your LinkedIn before picking up the phone to call you
  3. A comprehensive job search plan that shows you how to navigate the Hidden Job Market – utilizing the Hidden Job Market puts the power in your hands and not in the hands of the companies

Without all of these basic elements in place, your job search will take much longer, no matter how qualified you are, or how many great skills you have. If you’re not having the success in your job search that you would like, let me guide you!

***To get you started on the road to job search success, I want to make sure you have every opportunity to get interview calls for the jobs you want – in order to do this, you need to start with a stellar resume.
